1. Scientific Papers for Oral Presentation (all topics but A8)

DATE seeks submissions of original, unpublished scientific work in one of its four tracks (D, A, T, and E) and 29 topics (for topic A8, see Industrial Experiences Brief Papers); for track and topic list, see Tracks and Topics list.

Scientific Papers for Oral Presentation will be evaluated with regard to their suitability for the conference, originality, and technical soundness. They require novel and complete research work supported by experimental results. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings (max six pages) and will be presented in either 30-minute ("long") or 15-minute ("short") slots in the conference program in front of an audience. The Program Committee reserves the right to reorient Oral-Presentation papers to Interactive-Presentation, to obtain the most suitable presentation format (for Interactive Presentations, see Interactive Presentations).

Topic selection: carefully select the most appropriate topic when submitting the paper. For track and topic list, see Tracks and Topics list. When you will submit the paper, you can state a secondary topic (not mandatory). If you indicate a second topic, the Program Committee will decide the most suitable topic for your paper.

Deadlines: Please note that Tuesday, 13 September 2016 23:59:59 CET, is the deadline to receive for each submitted paper (to be a valid submission) at least a title, abstract and complete list of authors (not changeable). Then, the full paper (up to six pages) can be submitted at the same time or later, but must be uploaded at the latest by Sunday, 18 September 2016 23:59:59 CET. Otherwise the initial submission of Tuesday, 13 September 2016 23:59:59 CET will be automatically withdrawn.

Notification and Camera Ready Paper: The contact author of a submitted paper will be notified of acceptance or rejection of his/her paper by Friday, 11 November 2016. In case of acceptance, authors need to prepare a final, camera-ready manuscript by Wednesday, 30 November 2016.

Double Submissions: submissions that are also under review or accepted by another conference, symposium, or journal will be rejected. The DATE conference will work cooperatively with others to check for these so-called "double-submissions".

Authors list: you are not allowed to modify the list of authors after the submission deadline. It is extremely important that you put the full list (in the correct order) when submitting the paper online. If your paper will be accepted, you will not be able to modify it later on.

Registration: It is mandatory that at least one author of each accepted paper attends the conference to present the work. Please note that each paper shall be accompanied by at least one different full conference registration at the speaker rate (i.e., two speaker registrations are needed for two accepted papers, e.g. from the main author or a co-author of the paper). In case of no attendance/presentation in person on-site, the paper will be deleted from the proceedings afterwards, despite of full payment at the speaker rate.

2. Scientific Papers for Interactive Presentation (all topics but A8)

DATE seeks submissions of original, unpublished scientific work in one of its four tracks (D, A, T, and E) and 29 topics (for topic A8, see Industrial Experiences Brief Papers); for track and topic list, see Tracks and Topics list.

Scientific Papers for Interactive presentations are expected to articulate emerging and future design, verification and test problems including work in progress and identify open problems that merit innovative future research. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings (max four pages) and will be presented in a face-to-face discussion area. Presenters are required to prepare a poster (up to A0 format) to help the discussion.

3. Industrial Experiences Brief Papers (only topic A8)

Industrial Experiences Brief Papers (topic A8) target original, unpublished papers covering industrial experiences and case studies. Submissions should relate to industrial research and practice, including: commercial and market trends; future research demand; developments in design automation, embedded software, applications and test; emerging markets; technology transfer mechanisms; on-line testing and fault tolerance for industrial applications. Pure product presentations and announcements are strongly discouraged and will not be considered for publication.

Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings (max two pages) and will be presented in 15-minute slots in the conference program in front of an audience.

4. Special Session Proposals: Embedded Tutorials, Hot-Topic Sessions, Panels

Special Sessions can take the form of (1) Panels discussing visionary and/or controversial issues, (2) Hot-Topic Sessions, dealing with the introduction and discussion of new R&D problems, and (3) Embedded Tutorial Sessions, addressing trends in the technical domains that are of interest to the conference participants. Special attention and consideration will be given to Special Sessions proposals matching DATE 2017 technical programme and exhibition campus focus: smart wearable electronics – including ultra-low power design, and energy harvesting/storing for autonomous things – cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and autonomous cyber-systems – namely robots and drones.

Special Session proposals must consist of an extended summary of up to 1,500 words as PDF file, describing the topic, the authors/speakers, and the format, and must be submitted via the DATE website by Saturday, 17 September 2016 23:59:59 CET.

The submitter of a submitted Special Session proposal will be notified of acceptance or rejection of his/her proposal by Friday, 11 November 2016. In case of acceptance, contributors of accepted Special Sessions will be asked to submit final texts or statements of panelists, as appropriate, for publication in the Proceedings as final, camera-ready manuscripts by Wednesday, 30 November 2016. Panel sessions are entitled to one page per panelist in the Proceedings, Hot-Topic Sessions are allocated a maximum of six (6) pages per speaker, whereas Embedded Tutorials are allocated one single paper for the entire session which should not exceed ten (10) pages.

For these final, camera-ready manuscripts, the only accepted file format is PDF. All papers should be formatted as follows: A4 or letter pages, double column, single spaced, Times or equivalent font of minimum 10 pt. Use of colors may enhance your figures and is encouraged. For the accepted special sessions, it is the responsibility of the Special Session organizer(s) to ensure that the Wednesday, 30 November 2016 deadline is met and all the camera-ready manuscripts from their respective Special Sessions are technically sound and meet the editorial standards of the DATE Proceedings. The Special Session Co-Chairs may decline the publication of the final manuscripts in the DATE Proceedings if the above responsibility is not fulfilled.

5. Monday Tutorial Proposals

On the first day, half-day technical tutorials on selected topics will be given by leading experts in their respective fields. The proposal should motivate the topic and its relevance for both academia and industry, specify whether it covers foundational topics or cutting-edge ones, describe the target audience (expected type of attendees? expected number? match with typical DATE audience?), the reason for a tutorial (why a tutorial, why now). Moreover, the proposal should include a brief abstract with a list of learning objectives, and a clear planning hereto (organization in sessions, possible speakers, what will be done to attract the audience), and the DATE Topic it is more closely related to. A tutorial proposal example is available here for download. Proposals should be submitted before Tuesday, 13 September 2016 23:59:59 CET via the DATE website.

The tutorial organizer(s) will be notified of acceptance or rejection of proposals by Friday, 11 November 2016. In case of acceptance, final information about the tutorial structure (confirmed speakers, final abstract, final agenda) must be provided by Thursday, 01 December 2016. Tutorial hand-out material (consisting of all slides and perhaps also background reading material) needs to be uploaded as a single PDF file via the SoftConf submission page by Thursday, 18 February 2016.

Speakers of accepted tutorials will receive:

  • Free registration for all tutorial speakers to the DATE 2017 Monday Tutorials.
  • One free conference registration per tutorial.
  • A honorarium up to € 1.000,00 depending on the success of the tutorial, to be divided by the various speakers of the tutorial.

6. PhD Forum

The PhD Forum is a poster session hosted by the European Design and Automation Association (EDAA), ACM-SIGDA, and CEDA for PhD students to present and discuss their research work with people in the design automation and system design community. It represents a good opportunity for students to get feedback on their research and for the industry to see academic work in progress. Proposals can be submitted via the DATE website by Friday, 21 October 2016. Submissions should follow the instructions given at https://www.date-conference.com/phd-forum-call-for-submission.

7. University Booth

The University Booth fosters the transfer of academic work to industry. The University Booth is part of the DATE exhibition and is free of charge for presenters and their visitors. It should be noted that the University Booth is not intended for disseminating the results of collaborative projects for which there is a specific section in the exhibition hall. 8. European Projects

This year too, DATE will have an extra section of the Proceedings dedicated to European Projects. EU Project Coordinators are invited to submit a paper (up to six pages) presenting preliminary ideas, work in progress or lessons learned from the project; papers will be peer-reviewed and selected based on innovation and originality; in particular, we would like to give visibility to papers addressing DATE topics. European Projects papers should be submitted before Friday, 14 October 2016. Submissions need to be made on-line via the following URL:

9. Exhibition Theatre

An open discussion forum in the midst of Europe’s leading electronic system design exhibition: The programme combines expert panel sessions, customers’ testimonials and tutorials given by industry leaders. The aim is to offer exhibition visitors up-to-date information and fresh views on the key industrial and business issues in the electronic systems design market, with a special emphasis on career opportunities for graduates and on supporting experienced professionals with information on how to shape the future of our industry.

10. Friday Workshop Proposals

Proposals for Friday Workshops on emerging research and application topics are invited. Particularly suitable topics are those not directly covered in the technical program and which have the potential to impact on future DATE technical areas in design and test of microelectronic systems.

A short Workshop proposal no longer than two (2) pages should include the following.

  • Workshop title and a clear description of its unique focus; outline the potential of the Workshop for growing and/or consolidating a community, as well as its relevance to the DATE conference;
  • Biography for each organizer, including the relevant recent activity to the topic of the Workshop;
  • Estimate for the target number of participants, by considering the fact that a successful event attracts both academic and industrial attendees; if there were any prior editions of the Workshop, provide a brief summary of its highlights and its past attendance;
  • Tentative format for the event, including: special sessions (e.g., invited talks, panels, embedded tutorials), regular sessions or poster sessions; note, the duration of a DATE Workshop is typically from 8:30am to 4:30pm, including an one-hour lunch break and two half-hour coffee breaks;
  • Focus for each special session together with the names/affiliations of the potential speakers;
  • If an open Call for Submissions will be circulated for regular and poster sessions, then the tentative schedule for the program preparation should be included (e.g., submission deadline, notification deadline).
